Anime Lashes - a fad or a lash style that has a future?

Anime Lashes are the latest hot trend on social media. In the following article, I'll tell you how this trend came about, how to achieve it and why to include it in your portfolio.

With every new trend, on the one hand I'm excited that there's something new to learn again, but I'm also a little nervous and afraid that what I'm learning won't last long and the trend will fade into history. I currently have the same dilemma with Anime Lashes...

Why is this style called Anime Lashes?

These fluttery lashes, which give a bristly and slightly glued-together impression, have their origins in Japanese comics. You may also come across the term Manga Lashes, which refers to or Webtoon Lashes, which refers to a popular website for creators and readers of these comics.

What is typical for Anime lashes?

The characters in Japanese comics have huge eyes that are accentuated by oversized eyelashes. Typical is the look of a wounded deer, where especially the female characters look like they have just cried or woken up.

At first, these eyelashes became successful in the cosplay subculture, but they are so trendy in their permanent form that they are worn not only as part of a costume, but also in everyday life. Although it does take a bit of courage.

For our routine, however, one could say that Anime lashes, when done correctly, should give a client with the right eye shape a very distinct doll-like look.

You may be wondering, how are Anime lashes different than, say, Kim K? Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference, but in principle, Anime lashes are much more pronounced than Kim K style.

Both styles have so-called spikes as their base, i.e. places with significantly longer lashes. This forms a kind of spikes, spikes, rays or, if you like, spines.
The eyelashes are not in a single line, but are "jagged".  With Anime Lashes, the difference between the normal length of the eyelash and the longest one used is very pronounced. It can be up to 10 mm longer than the shortest lash. That's really extreme!

It's best to show the difference with a picture:

How to create a perfect Anime Lash look?

To achieve a flawless result, Anime Lashes can be created using the lash-to-lash technique, but you can also make the job easier by using volume fans. Wispy fans, which are naturally fringed, are the most suitable. They contain 9-13 mm long lashes.

Wispy lashes are available in C1 and D1 curves, while D lashes, where the end is more uplifted, are more suitable for Anime Lash styling.

You can read more about Wispy eyelash fans and other types you can find on Lashes PRO in my article Volume eyelashes in ready-made eyelash fans - what are the different types on the market?

THE PROCESS OF CREATING ANIME LASHES:

1) Start by dividing the lashes on your upper eyelid into 2 -3 layers using masking tape. You'll set each of them separately - one to create the spikes, the other to be set in the classic way.

2) As I mentioned above, good old handmade fans are best for the Anime style and its distinctive lash spikes (but you can use Wispy fans, but the effect won't be as pronounced with those).

3) If you decide to use handmade fans, keep in mind that for each spike you will have to create a sort of mound with the longest eyelash in the middle and then with eyelashes 1 mm shorter, so for example the longest spike will be 14 mm, each side will have eyelashes 13 mm long, then 12 mm long, etc.

4) The lashes need to be tilted when gluing so that they form pointing from both sides to the longest lash in the group. This is how the wet eyelash effect is created.

5) The clusters of eyelashes should always be 5 mm longer than the base line of the fans. This is most easily created with Narrow fans.

To fully understand how to do this, I recommend finding a nice video on YouTube or checking out the work of my colleagues on Instagram. I too had to consult Karolina Zalabák (@lashbar_kadan) before I figured out how to do it.

Who is the Anime style going to suit best?

Anime lashes are suitable for those who are not afraid to be extravagant and want to have a really distinctive and memorable look. These lashes look best on Asian women, but they can also suit European women. They are suitable for eyes that are further apart and give a closed impression. Anime-style lashes highlight them nicely.

But beware! Clients who have round eyes or eyes that are too close together should avoid this lash styling. Because of the fact that Anime Lashes are really very pronounced, the client could end up looking more scared than seductive.
