*Reading time is about 7 minutes.

In this article you will learn:

  • Who is to blame for poor retention and why false eyelashes fall out prematurely.
  • What to do if the fault is on your side.

How to prevent premature eyelash fallout on the part of the client.

  • The top 3 points to keep in mind if you want your lashes to hold up properly!

Why do false eyelashes fall out prematurely?

It seems against the rules, but sometimes a false eyelash leaves its place in an otherwise perfect set after just a few days - even though it should still be holding nicely in place.

But what to do, when a client comes in for a "quick refill" after a few days and you find out that her lashes have such gaps that you might as well do the whole set over again?

Whose fault is that?

"It's the client's fault! I'm sure she went to the sauna right after the application, went for a swim, didn't take care of her lashes or used oil-based cosmetics."

NO WAY! I mean, yes, of course the client could have - knowingly or not - caused her eyelashes to fall out early. But the sad truth is that more often than not, the fault lies somewhere in the lash artist's workflow.

Ideally, eyelash extensions should fall out with the natural eyelashes. Natural eyelashes are like hair. Each client will have different length, thickness, quality and will also grow faster or slower and fall out differently. However, the average lifespan of natural eyelashes is around one month. So, how do you make a truly false eyelash last for up to four weeks without any problems?

I recommend: Has a client confided in you that her natural lashes - and with them the false ones - are falling out much more than usual and she doesn't know why? Read my articles Why my eyelashes are falling out and what to do about it or

What if the lash artist is at fault?

Where to look for the root causes of poor retention that originate in the salon? These are the three things to look out for. Read on.

  1. It's all about preparing natural lashes.
  2. But it's also about the glue and working with it.
  3. And it can also be about the application of the false lashes themselves.

Mistakes in the preparation of natural eyelashes

Preparing lashes for extensions is not something you can skip simply because the client's lashes look clean. We are all delighted when a client arrives for her appointment with her make-up removed. It's just that even if she doesn't have any makeup on, there is a microscopic layer of old skin, dust, grease and other debris on the natural lashes and around the eyes. And even the best adhesive won't stick to this "base". It's not for nothing that they say that an experienced lash artist spends 10-15 minutes preparing lashes and an inexperienced one is done in 5 minutes.

So let's review:

  1. If a client comes to you with makeup on, don't be afraid to hand her cotton pads and makeup remover or micellar water (which are not oil-based) and ask her to remove her makeup from her eyes. It will be more comfortable for both of you and will save you significant time.
  2. We will properly cleanse the client's lashes, eyes and eye area with the Lashes PRO Cleansing Foam. If the situation calls for it, feel free to repeat the application of the foam even two or three times until you are sure that the lashes and surrounding area are perfectly degreased and clean. Be sure to wash off the mousse after each application and dry the lashes thoroughly at the end.

Tip: A great tool for the second step is the wooden brush you get for free with the cleansing mousse in the Lashes PRO range. It's soft, applies the mousse very well and gets everywhere it needs to go.

3. Clean and dried eyelashes are ready for Primer application. This dehydrates the eyelashes (getting rid of possible grease residues) and balances their pH, thus creating perfect conditions for the adhesion of the false eyelashes with the help of glue. Rest assured, Primer Lashes PRO won't dry out your lashes unnecessarily, as its formula also nourishes the lashes. It is therefore also suitable for clients who have drier skin.

Tip: I recommend using a micro-brush to apply the primer , especially one with a bendable tip, which beautifully coats the lashes from all sides and covers the entire length of the lash from root to tip. Microbrushes are also useful when applying cleansing foam. You'll also find them in selected Lashes PRO bargain packs - so always have plenty of them.

If you neglect these three steps - or even just one of them - you're setting yourself, or your client, up for poor retention. And then it's no wonder the lashes fall like autumn leaves...

Mistakes regarding eyelash glue and working with it

I'll let you in on a secret. There are different glues - fast or slower, good quality and inferior in quality. But at the end of the day, it's not just about what glue you have, it's about whether you know how to work with it.

Each glue has its own specifics and each one "behaves" a little differently. The problem arises when the seller doesn't tell you what exactly the glue "needs". So you can throw an otherwise good glue for a lot of money in the trash because your eyelashes won't stick to it.

Fortunately, I'll tell you how to work with the Lashes PRO glue so that everything always sticks. All it takes is one article and you'll never have a retention problem again. Read my 5 principles for working with glue.

Mistakes when applying false eyelashes

You have a great glue and it works like a charm. The drying time is ideal and it suits you in every way, but the lashes still fall out?

Maybe you're just not giving the glue enough room - literally. In fact, the bond between the false and natural eyelashes should be at least 2 mm thick.

But throw the ruler in the corner, because those working with our fans don't need to measure or estimate anything. The foot of the Lashes PRO fans is just long enough to give you a hint.

It measures just about 2 mm, which makes working with them even easier. The surface area of the fan's narrow foot gives you plenty of room for a nice tight joint. Of course, even if the length of the foot is a hair shorter or longer, it doesn't matter.

In fact, the joint area of the false and natural eyelashes should never be less than 1 mm. In this case, the false eyelash will usually not stay in place for more than a few days.

Final tip: Think about the correct positioning of the eyelashes, as shown in the picture. The false eyelash must not touch the eyelid and should always sit nicely on the natural eyelash.

What if the client is at fault?

If you believe that your client is being her own enemy and that her lack of care is to blame for the premature falling out of her false eyelashes, it's probably time to remind her of the basics.

Go over the 6 principles of proper eyelash extension care with her in detail, and be sure to offer her our gentle Eyelash Cleansing Foam with Brush (which you'll also find in the bargain set) and Eyelash Brush in protective packaging before you leave the salon.

And, of course, an attendance card, where she will not only note her refill appointment, but will find all of these care principles written out on it. Then it's up to her. :)
