For a long time, false eyelashes have been seen as a bad trend that not everyone can do well. However, in recent times, this trend has expanded and reached the necessary qualities. Nowadays, a skilled lash artist can apply lashes in such a way that they are virtually indistinguishable from the real ones.
How did this trend start, where were the biggest breakthroughs and who were the pioneers of this trend? All this will be answered in my article today.
A bit of history
Elizabeth Taylor or Marilyn Monroe were praised not only for their acting skills but also for their unmatched beauty. Their looks inspired lust in men and envy in women. But did you know the real reason for Elizabeth's irresistible gaze? A double row of lashes! She had a disorder called dysthiasis.
Distichiasis is a rare disorder that affected her FOXC2 gene, resulting in a genetic mutation. Yes, I find it hard to believe that anyone would call a double row of lashes a mutation, it seems more like a gift from the gods.
However, this "mutation" can now be managed with the "eyelash to eyelash" technique, which achieves the same effect. This is a revolutionary technique for lengthening and thickening both upper and lower natural eyelashes.
More techniques from the beginning of the millennium
Eyelashes like brooms or like caterpillars are very common expressions that were associated with the first attempts at eyelash extensions. It's not easy to make natural-looking false eyelashes. The reason for this can be the wrong material or, for example, an obstacle such as drooping eyelids - and immediately, there is a problem. Often, the skill of those applying the lashes is also lacking.
However, we now have sophisticated methods that any lash artist can handle with some will and effort. Nowadays, ready-made volume fans rule the world. The most popular types are Narrow, Camellia and Wispy. More about these fans can be found in this article.
Of course, eyelashes can also be modified in other ways, because (like any other field), eyelash adhesives are evolving. Other methods we currently have can be found here.
If you're new to eyelashes and aren't sure of everything you need, start with our beginner's kit. You'll get the hang of it in no time.
Main pioneers of our century
Who can we thank for bringing false eyelashes into the spotlight in the best possible way and thus providing inspiration for the best trends of this century?
Among the major icons is Kim Kardashian. She can be considered the "queen of false eyelashes". Her lashes were based on alternating lengths of individual pieces. Thus, they revealed the secret of a full but natural effect. Kim herself has never made a secret of this and has not hidden her added adornment. However, even she had her difficult beginnings. Fortunately, over time, she has moved on from unsightly and thick brooms to lashes that evoke a bit of a "messy look". The "one lash long, one lash short" style is something that has come to symbolize perfectly formed fans thanks to her. Hence the name Kim K styling, which is also known as Wispy, after her.
Fun fact: Do you know what the longer lashes in this look are called? They are "Spikes", most commonly known as eyelash spokes or spikes.
Who was the next icon? Taylor Swift is known for her mesmerizing looks. While we would swear by her beauty, she was gifted with narrow eyes, with no significant space on her eyelids. But that couldn't keep her away from false eyelashes. Following her style of glue-on lashes, a trend emerged that translated into permanent lashes. Her cat-eye look (or cat-eye styling) is due to the precise folding of her lashes, which extend significantly into the outer corner of the eye, with not so much material on the inner corner that it doesn't obscure her beautiful sapphire eyes. If you know how to do it...
Last but not least, Kylie Jenner is considered another "ambassador" of false eyelashes. Her stunning look is slowly becoming a textbook example of what beautiful eyelashes should look like. We're not saying that Mother Nature provided all these assets, but she is one of the most talked about celebrities thanks to her flawless and slightly artificial look. It's not for nothing that they say the compliment "you look like a doll".
Kylie uses thick, highly curled lashes. In terms of size, they go from smallest to largest, and even slightly thickened at the end. Compared to Taylor, she has a more gradual transition because her eyes don't shrink this type of lashes, giving them a cat-eye look again. The so called wet look is something that has been her domain and she has always dominated with bold Spikes (or spikes or rays) which she takes great pride in.
Finally, I would like to mention that Megan Fox is one of the celebrities who doesn't like natural beauty and she uses false eyelashes for most of her looks. If I am looking for a sexy symbol of the 21st century, there is no debate and I can pick her to the winner's podium. Her lashes are always perfect and ready to impress any singer or actor. She has tried many techniques such as the Wet look, Russian volume and classic 1:1 lashes...
Kdo trend prodloužených řas nezvládl?
However, there are those in Hollywood who can overdo it with the eyelashes. Nicki Minaj is one of those people who loves extremes. However, there's no need to push them everywhere. This is where I would use the phrase "less is sometimes more". Lady Gaga, in her early days, was another person you shouldn't go to for advice on new lashes. The glued 5 triangle type trends are not what any of us want. Although I understand that they were definitely not meant to be worn daily, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
You need to make a good decision and take advice so that your eyelash extensions don't go overboard and still look natural. You can find out how to do this in our article.
What eyelashes should you choose?
So what are the trends that have been rocking the celebrity world lately? If your client has high arched eyebrows and overall her eyes look rather bulbous, follow in Kim's footsteps and go for Wispy or Camellia lashes. It will make the eye look slightly smaller while it has no chance of disappearing even under a bold set of lashes. If your eyes are almond-shaped and symmetrical, bet on the trend introduced by Kylie. One next to the other, gradually growing. That's something everyone wants.
If you think your eyes aren't the biggest in the world and you want to add to it, take advantage of the trend brought by Taylor and do the perfect cat-eye with longer ends. As a proper lash artist, you definitely know what lash mapping means , so it won't be a problem to choose the right styling for your clients.
