Ladies, all bullshit aside, I think we can agree that having finished fans on hand is extremely convenient! Yet many lash artists refuse to use them, which I think is a shame. So it's time to discuss a few burning questions. For example, where does the price of a set of ready-made fans compare to freshly handmade ones? Is the client deciding whether to have a set of fresh or finished fans? And what about the time savings in the work?
I've got the answers ready and you've got something to look forward to - this article is going to be a ride!
In the first part of the article, we'll focus first on the main topic, namely how this whole fan parade is going to cost us.
The second part of the article is devoted to the battle between finished and freshly made fans. Who came out as the winner? The answer may surprise you!
In the end, you will learn why the price of the product is not the main thing that can win you over with ready-made fans. See if you agree with me.
Finance comes first
If you want to "work for yourself", you need to be able to calculate how much the material itself will cost you - among other things - when you do the work. So forget about all the auxiliary liquids, glue, brushes, pads and other tools, or the rent of the premises and the cost of energy for a moment and let's just focus on the lashes.
How much does it cost to work with Premium 3D Volume Lashes 0.07 mm?
- The package contains 1200 pieces of fans.
- The price per pack (as of 20 August 2022) is 715 crowns with a loyalty discount for registered customers.
- One fan is therefore 0.595 crowns.
Now let's calculate that one eye has an average of 100 eyelashes.
With 100% of all lashes, the cost of the fans will cost you 120 crowns (both eyes, one client).
However, fans with more volume can give more interesting results, because if you want to create your own by hand, you have to take into account that they will be more expensive in material and more time and technique consuming. What about pre-made fans?
How much does it cost to work with 5D Premium Volume Lashes 0.07 mm?
- The package contains 1200 pieces of fans.
- The price per pack is 781 CZK with a loyalty discount for registered customers.
- One fan costs 0.650 crowns.
Now let's calculate that one eye has on average 100 eyelashes.
With 100% of all lashes, the cost of the fans will cost you 130 crowns (both eyes, one client).
Remember, we're already talking beautifully rich volume with 5D lashes! The final effect is great, the work is quick, your hands will be relieved and yet your wallet will hardly know the difference.
Is this price too much or too little?
I suspect that if you're used to making fresh fans by hand during a session, you have a type and brand of lash in your arsenal that works well for fanning.
There are already a whole lot of volume lashes on the market and the price can vary dramatically. I'll leave it up to you to calculate how a set with your material compares to a set with ready-made Lashes PRO fans. However, I believe that when you take into account all the extra work in addition to the material, you will begin to see how much benefit the finished fans can have for you.
Which fans are better quality - ready-made or handmade?
Since Lashes PRO specializes in ready-made fans, you might think my answer is a foregone conclusion. But it's not that simple. Ready-made fans can be worth a penny or a godsend, just as fresh handmade ones are.
Many women, often very experienced ones, have a problem with ready-made fans.
Many lash artists, often even very experienced ones, are prejudiced against ready-made fans. This is partly because a few years ago it was impossible to find ready-made fans that were worth anything. They were usually heavier, bulky, often asymmetrical and had a very thick foot, making them harder to work with. The material from which they were made was also of inferior quality, so it was not surprising that the results with such a product looked like a child's doodle even in the hands of specialists.
Luckily for us (and you), over the past few years, fans have greatly improved.
Take our premium line of volumizing lashes, for example. Every single fan is like the next, beautifully symmetrical, lightweight, high quality, soft, with a perfectly thin and tight bond! It's really hard not to love them.
So why is there such a stigma against quality fans? Let's shine a light on the 3 most common arguments.
Argument 1 - "The client is paying for quality work, not a quick set of store bought fans!"
I understand the very first objection from the opponents of fans in principle and agree that it's wonderful when a lash artist gives each of her clients her all and maximum time.
However, the vast majority of lash artists themselves - even very experienced ones - cannot tell the difference between a set of finished and fresh fans by sight.
Unfortunately, not every lash artist can create perfectly symmetrical handmade fans like on a treadmill, one client after another. Especially if you're creating mega volume. And if the fans aren't like each other, the result can't be perfectly symmetrical either.
And the client is interested in the result, not the process. So if you can have beautiful work in a fraction of the time, why not take advantage of it? The important thing is that the lashes will hold and that they will look good on the lady!
Argument 2 - "The double glue makes the ready-made fans unnecessarily heavy on the eyes!"
Sounds clever, but it's nonsense. The perfectly thin bond of the fans doesn't add any extra weight to them.Lashes PRO fans, on the other hand, are amazingly light. Believe it or not.
3D volume lashes in a 0.07 mm fan,
4D volume lashes in a 0.06 mm fan or
5D volume lashes in a 0.05 mm fan
are each one lighter than a single 1:1 eyelash! Yes, you read that right, 5 lashes in one can still be lighter than a single conventional lash.
So we can't talk about extra weight here at all.
It's all about the thickness of the lash and the quality of the material. And you can rely on that with Lashes PRO.
Argument 3 - "Without a wrap, the lashes won't hold properly!"
Wrap - that perfect technique where a live fan "hugs" a natural eyelash - is great in theory, but not everyone knows this technique at a sufficient level to make it functional. With a proper wrap, you need to subordinate its placement to the angle of the natural eyelash. Only when applied parallel to the eyelash will you create the desired joint, where the wrap fan hugs the natural eyelash.
However, clients' natural lashes do not all grow at a perfect angle, so in practice your lash line can look anything but pretty. And by aligning the lashes nicely into one line, you can't count on the wrap being the way it's supposed to be on all lashes. It loses some of its meaning.
Conclusion? Ready-made fans don't hold up any less than freshly made ones, and they're still priceless for everyday work. In fact, the durability and longevity of false lashes depends primarily on the main pillars of any lash artist's success - perfect preparation and isolation of natural lashes, positioning of false lashes, the art of working with glue and so on.
Time is money
I honestly admit that I see the biggest advantage of fans as the way they can save me time while working. And after all - if I spend an hour less than usual on a complete set, without hurting the quality of the result, not only will I be satisfied, but so will my client. And I can dedicate the saved time to another lady - so I can do four sessions in a day instead of three.
And that counts right away!
So if you haven't worked with ready-made fans before, don't worry about it. You'll see that your preconceived notions were unnecessary! And if you do work with fans, don't be shy about telling others. Working efficiently is not something to feel guilty about, and it certainly doesn't mean that you shouldn't be able to handcraft the perfect fan and do your job to perfection.
